During 2020 my Father turned 90 and we had a special celebration. He and my mother had been married for over 60 years and were still living in their home. He began having small strokes and his brilliant mind started to short circuit on occasion but he was still doing well. During that time, my Australian Cattle Dog, Max, became ill with cancer. I did what I could for him but in the end, after a last trip to the ocean and watching a glorious sunset together, I had to let him go. Two weeks later, while I was still grieving for my doggie, my Father was in a serious car accident and after a few days in the hospital during which we could not see him in person due to COVID-19 restrictions, he passed away. Our last contact was through a tablet during which he could barely talk and tried to touch my mother’s face through the screen. My comfort is that due to COVID-19, I was able to spend much more time with both my doggie and my Father, until the end. I will always miss them but I think they knew, and know, how much I love them.
